A Brief History...
The Redwood County Public Health Service began in 1917 and functioned as a single nurse agency from 1917 to 1976. In 1976 the Community Health Services Act was passed which caused Public Health programs to expanded and additional staff to be hired. In 1994, because the agency no longer dealt with just "nursing services", the agency eliminated "Nursing" from its name. |

Family Health Home Visiting

This program provides home visits to person’s age 0-21 years of age who are medically fragile, have questions about home safety, nutrition, growth and development, health status, and other parental concerns. This program is a combined effort of many agencies to provide services, guidance and referrals to children from birth to 3 years of age who have problems that affects their development and ability to learn.
Early Childhood Screening
Under current law, schools must offer a preschool screening for 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 year olds in their school districts in order to detect problems as early as possible that may affect
the child in school. Redwood County Public Health
nurses cooperate with the school districts to provide the screenings at various times during the school year. The screening components are determined by your school district. The screenings can include height, weight, developmental screening, hearing, vision, and a health history. Nurses provide one-to-one counseling with parents regarding the health, development, and behavior of their child.

|
What is Follow Along Program?
This program follows children (birth to 4 years) through parent questionnaires to ensure appropriate developmental growth, refers children to appropriate resources, and provides parental support/education. There is no charge to families.
How does it work?
Families are enrolled with a home visit and receive ASQ's (Ages and Stages Questionnaires) at certain ages during their child’s development. Each questionnaire asks how your child is growing, playing, talking, moving, and acting. Sheets with fun activities for you to do with your child or other age appropriate items are also sent to you.
What happens if a problem is noted?
The results of the questionnaires will be shared with you. If there are any concerns, a nurse or other professional from the program will get in touch with you. Together, you can talk about choices for further evaluation or early help services.
