Best practices for ‘Staff Perspective’ can best be described as “common sense” approaches.  Providing staff information in a clear and understanding format and providing them the opportunity to ask questions and give their feedback calms worries, limits office rumors, and adds stability to any agency.  This section includes approaches currently being used in counties across Minnesota.

Examples of practical communication tools for sharing information with staff:

  • Rumor walls/boards-Staff write questions anonymously on whiteboards placed in employee break rooms with answers/responses written behind question.
  • Suggestion Boxes-Physical and electronically available for staff to make suggests regarding reducing services, possible cost savings, etc.
  • Staff informational meetings- Timeline/deadline of changes, straightforward information provided.
  • Morale & change workshops: FISH training, "Who moved my Cheese?", Beached whale video-(contact: Chuck Koenigs)
  • Websites with FAQ for staff to review-posted on county websites with links to other sites
  • DHS Bulletins- heavily used by staff to make the changes.
